A great set of fun hits. Take an exceptional Orchestra well trained in that Cabaret style add a superb German singer that has that perfectly acentuated German song projection then mix pop hits of today with the Weinmar style. Presto.
The songs mostly seem to be rather pedestrian and lack the flavor of previous ventures. This CD of the Palast Orchester wanders somewhat away from the style that they have used in more famous nostalgic recordings. This is volume number 2; I'd like to know what's on volume number 1. This CD is okay, but nothing special. While all the songs are sung in English (and well-done, too)., the style is really too modern for this orchestra, and I think it hurts the overall effect. Plus, I don't know where the 'super' is in "Super Hits".
definately for someoe with a sense of humor. The guys accent is so perfect singing these songs. listen and laugh. I would recommend this cd to anyone. I sort of picked it up as a joke to email clips to friends.
He is quite a talent.If you have friends who like cabaret music, dance music, or theater orchestras and you invite them over for an evening, you could not find anything better to play than this album (and the rest of Max Raabe's recordings as well). I have to say that "You're the Cream in My Coffee" and "Brazil" themselves are worth the price of the album. I do not understand German but so what. There's not a bad track in the bunch.My wife and I have already listened to all three of our albums.Don't let the German titles shown here "throw" you.
I recently heard Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester on a local (Philadelphia) radio station and my wife and I were so enamored with this music that we had to order everything of theirs we could find. They'll love it as will you. Perhaps that's an advantage: one of the songs, sung in German, is titled "Viagra." Raabe is the singer on the tracks that feature a vocalist and he writes some of the music as well. This album Ein Freund ein Guter Freu was one of three in the first package that arrived today.
The music and the performances are just great, great, as are the vocals some of which are in English, some in German, and ALL are enjoyable. I recommend this and the other Max Raabe albums wholeheartedly.Sound quality is first-class as well. (I have four more discs which will ship later). But the rest is equally good.
